House OKs bill implementing national ID system | Headlines, News, The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives approved on second reading on Wednesday a bill mandating the implementation of a national identification system covering all Filipinos in the country and abroad.

The Filipino ID system “shall gradually concert and consolidate all existing government-initiated identification system into one integrated and efficient identification system,” the bill stated.

House Bill 5060, or the proposed “Filipino Identification System Act,” was authored by Reps. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Rodel Batocabe, Al Francis Bichara, Rodolfo Biazon, Christopher Co, Anthony del Rosario, Ferdinand Hernandez, Elisa Kho, Gavini Pancho, Maximo Rodriguez and Rufus Rodriguez.

Under the bill, every Filipino, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, would be mandated to register their personal information into the national ID system. The ID would be non-transferrable and would carry a number that shall be valid for life.
