PLEASE READ:
The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (“SWIFT”) operates a worldwide financial messaging network. Messages are securely and reliably exchanged between banks and other financial institutions. SWIFT also markets software and services to financial institutions, much of it for use on the SWIFTNet Network, and ISO 9362 bank identifier codes are popularly known as “SWIFT codes”.
It is the unique identification code of a particular bank. These codes are used when transferring money between banks, particularly for international wire transfers, and also for the exchange of other messages between banks. The codes can sometimes be found on account statements.
The majority of international interbank messages use the SWIFT network. As of December 2007 SWIFT linked 8,332 financial institutions in 208 countries.
The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) handles the registration of these codes. For this reason, Bank Identifier Codes (BICs) are often called SWIFT addresses or codes.
There are over 7,500 “live” codes (for partners actively connected to the BIC network) and an estimated 10,000 additional BIC codes which can be used for manual transactions.

IBAN (International Bank Account Number)
In europe among the european countries, ever since they acceded to euro currency, the interbank payment transactions had become very easier, cheaper and under single currency euro. It became mandatory for Banks in the EU to issue IBANs, on request, on all accounts from 2001. By introduction of IBAN (International Bank Account Number) one single account number is enough to receive payments from europe or worldwide. This IBAN account number contains information about
* Beneficiary Account number
* Bank Clearing Code (BLZ in germany, Code guichet in france)
* Destination CountryBesides this, each bank worldwide are allotted and identified by a unique code known as SWIFT code or BIC (Bank Identification Code). The SWIFT organisation is responsible for allotting SWIFT or BIC codes to banks worldwide. Their website is swift.com. They also publish very latest updated SWIFT codes for banks or institutions in their website.
The IBAN was developed to facilitate payments within the European Union. Customers, especially individuals and SMEs, are frequently confused by differing national standards for bank account numbers. The IBAN is not yet used for routing, because the IBAN has not been widely adopted outside Europe, among other reasons. The ECBS expects that adoption may take up to ten years, so it remains necessary to use the current ISO 9362 Bank Identifier Code system (BIC or SWIFT code) in conjunction with the BBAN or IBAN.
At present, the United States does not participate in IBAN, although in Mexico they have a similar system called the CLABE. Any adoption of the IBAN standard by U.S. banks would likely be initiated by ANSI ASC X9, the U.S. financial services standards development organization.
Currently all European non-CIS countries, as well as Israel, Tunisa, Mauritius, and Turkey participate in the IBAN system, while the rest of the world remains outside of it. British dependencies (except Gibraltar and the Crown Dependencies) don’t participate in the IBAN system.

kung bank-to-bank transaction ito, like, mag dedeposito si fiance from a Danish bank to Metrobank, all he needs is the SWIFT CODE of Metrobank.

The first thing you should do is to ask your bank in the US if your bank in the Philippines is accredited with them. Only then you can arrange with them a monthly direct deposit to your account in the Philippines. Also, charges will be deducted from your account. Accredited means Vostro & Nostro accounts are existent meaning your bank in the Philippines has an account with your bank in the US and vice versa.

You can deposit bank-to-bank.
I assume you are an OFW.
You must establish a dollar account in your host country. From there, you can deposit money to your Philippine bank account.
Don’t forget the SWIFT code. The SWIFT code is the same regardless where the bank is in the Philippines.
Takes around 3 days clearing.

Hi rosalie,
the Philippines does not follow IBAN, but SWIFT/BIC codes.
IBAN is for inter-european banking transfers.
http://www.europebanks.info/ibanguide.htm
If you are sending money from europe to philippine banks, you will provide only the bank account info and SWIFT code.

Dear Jun,
i assume you are somewhere in Europe or your employer’s office is in europe.
if your company is the one depositing money from europe to the phils, you should only present SWIFT (also known as BIC).
IBAN and all other infos are only for inter-europe banking transactions.
In short, tell your company that Philippines does not use IBAN and european banking transacation codes other than SWIFT/BIC.
These are the only important things:
Bank Name:
Bank Branch/Location:
Account Name:
Account Code:
SWIFT CODE:
European banks should be able to transfer funds using SWIFT only.

i’m sorry i have difficulty trying to figure out your issues.
I don’t know if what is being transfered between the banks is cash or cheque.
But first, you need to open a domicilliary bank account with BDO before you can ask a US bank to do bank-to-bank transfer to your BDO account.
I think you need to clarify with BDO how to resolve the issues. There might be a misunderstanding somewhere. I do not see any problem, really, of them receiving cash transfer from a US bank.
I’m sure they are more than happy to accept a new depositor.
Good luck.

Siguraduhing meron kang kopya pag deposito mo ha.

Sabihin mo sa main office (KSA) nyo na hatiin yung padala. maybe 80% goes to PNB and the rest is sent to libya branch office. then, cash na ibigay sa iyo ng libya branch office.

For most RP banks, Swift code is not the same as routing number, as the name suggest. SWIFT code are all alpha (meaning, letters), while routing number is all numeric.
Some RP banks have routing numbers, especially the ones with overseas branches. Inquire at your RP bank if they have Routing number.
Here are some routing numbers of RP banks i found in the net.
Warning: Please verify with the banks.

You may have to ask your wife to inquire at GSIS, or visit GSIS website and send e-mail inquiry, assuming they will reply.
I think the safest way is for your wife to open a separate ATM account on another bank, say Metrobank or BDO.
Here are issues on the E-Card:

Yes, beneficiary must open a bank account in any RP universal bank.
doesn’t matter if in Peso or Dollar account. But they say that becoz of the drop in dollar rate, it is better to use a Peso account.
But then again, it’s your choice.

HELLO PWEDE BA MALAMAN ANG ROUTING NUMBER NG CHINA BANK?
LikeLike
August 4, 2008 at 2:14 pm
TO ROLAND:
You have to inquire at Chinabank.
Philippine banks normally, do not use routing numbers. Only US/EU banks use routing numbers aside from IBAN and sort code.
In Philippines, banks only use SWIFT/BIC codes.
If you are depositing from US, the routing number should be that of the US Bank. On Phil side, SWIFT/BIC should suffice.
Hope this helps.

ABOUT THE EQUITABLE-BDO MERGER:
—
We would like to inform you that due to the merger of BDO and EPCI Bank, EPCI Bank branches would undergo a conversion process. All accounts will be provided with new BDO account numbers as soon as their branch of account is converted to the new system. Your account as well as your existing ATM cards, could still be used up to a maximum of one (1) year from the time all EPCIB accounts have been converted. The schedule of this migration will be communicated to the clients of affected branches through mailed letters, one month prior to the activity. Similarly, you are encouraged to visit your branch of account for information on your new account details.
Further, active user accounts enrolled to FASTNet and other electronic channels of the bank (if it applies) shall be converted to BDO’s Electronic Banking facility automatically as soon as your account is converted to a BDO account. For the mean time that FASTNet is still available, you will still be able to access the facility using the same user name and password but for limited services. These shall NOT include the following:
a) Fund Transfer from a CONVERTED to a CONVERTED ACCOUNT.
b) Bills Payment using CONVERTED account as source.
c) Transaction History from the time account is CONVERTED
d) Checkbook Reorder & Record Check for CONVERTED accounts
e) Cashier/Traveler and New Account Opening
As such, it is recommended to use the BDO Electronic Banking facility as soon as all accounts are converted. Also, current transactions in FASTNet are all available in BDO’s electronic channels, however, some may require enrollment like subscriber numbers for Bills Payment and 3rd Party destination accounts for Fund Transfers. This could be done online or through any branch of BDO.
You may log on to http://www.mybdo.com.ph and use the same PAN as the user name and PIN as your password.

If you are sending to PNB in the Philippines, no need for IBAN because Philippine banks only use SWIFT code.
The only time PNB will need an IBAN is if it is an overseas branch. In this case, we have no information on its IBAN.

Any idea what is the correct SWIFT Code, if any, for RCBC Savings Bank?

Sending money before SWIFT was much simpler. Routing number lang and voila, within max of 2 days nasa RCBC Saving Bank na pinadala ko. Now, I could not send any money because no one knows yet the SWIFT Code.

SWIFT CODE: BPI Family Savings Bank BPFFPHM1

Maybe your depository bank has problems in communicating with RP bank.

This is what i found on the Internet about Xoom:
– startquote –
“” Xoom is an international money transfer service that allows users to transer funds from its website to others who are off line and in other countries. The services is a viable alternative to PayPal when you hit some of PayPal’s limitations such as overseas transfers.
Xoom transactions do not require bank accounts on either side. Also, Xoom allows your to transfer your PayPal funds where PayPal itself can’t. Fees range from around 4% for small transactions to 1.1% for large ones. It’s a reasonable rate compared to others, but nothing to brag about. “”
****
“” XOOM USER COMMENTS:
Xoom.com provides the WORST ever service to transfer money internationally. Their slogan “SEND MONEY IN MINUTES” is false. It has taken more than 12 days for them to validate my checking bank account before funds are available to my recipient, but obviously, they didn’t take too long -less than 12 hours- to debit my account after I provide them with all my bank account details. They kept my money (only a few hundreds) for almost 2 weeks. For a few hundreds, the interest shouldn’t be too much during half a month, but I wonder how much money(millions) they keep at no interest from other people. I pay thousands, a HELL, in interests for money borrowed PER DAY, but these people are making profits at no cost. I would strongly discourage anyone to use Xoom. Better alternatives like WESTERN Union are out there. Think TWICE before you engage your money with them, at least until they advertise SEND MONEY IN WEEKS!
http://www.crunchbase.com/company/xoom “”
– endquote –

For me, it’s not which is faster, but which is safer and more sure to deliver. Bank-to-bank by SWIFT would be more convenient for me.

Hi!
My name’s Joey. I am writing because of this problem I have. Hope the post is still working…
I want to join an online writing group where the mode of payment for services is through wire transfer. I specifically opened a new account in Metrobank just for this purpose. Now, the site asks me for the following info:
1. Beneficiary name: Name on the account
2. Beneficiary address: Your address
3. Beneficiary identifier: Your account number
4. Beneficiary bank identifier: CHIPS UID OR SWIFT ID OR CHIPS ABA OR Fedwire Number of the Beneficiary’s financial institution.
5. Beneficiary bank name: Name of your bank
6. Beneficiary bank address: Address of your bank
7. The ABA number of your bank’s CORRESPONDING BANK in the USA
8. Intermediary bank identifier: CHIPS UID OR SWIFT ID OR CHIPS ABA OR Fedwire Number of the intermediary financial institution.
9. Intermediary bank name: Name of the bank
10. Intermediary bank address: Address of the bank
Now, I can give the first info on the first six items. However, my bank can’t give info. on the last 4 items. Wala daw intermediary bank yung Metrobank sa States. I cannot complete my profile because of this issue.
Can someone help me?

Routing, sorting and IBAN are used if you are sending money either between banks in europe or north america.

Please coordinate or ask the remittance center for their procedure and requirements.

Pwede po. Doesn’t matter if ur RP account is in peso or dollar. Makakatanggap pa rin.
The only difference is in the Peso savings account, the dollar remiitance will automatically be converted to peso on the day’s forex rate. You will withdraw in pesos na.
Whereas, sa dollar account, you can withdraw it as dollars.

METROBANK EXTENDS SERVICE TO CLIENTS DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank), the country’s leading bank announced that close to 300 selected branches nationwide will be open to serve the banking public during the long holiday break from December 25, 2008 to January 1, 2009.
Selected Metrobank branches will be open from December 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31, and January 1, 2009. December 24, 2008 is a regular banking day.
Strategically located branches in Metro Manila and major hubs including Vigan, Tuguegarao, Baguio, Tarlac, San Fernando Pampanga, Dagupan, Calamba, Cavite, Legaspi and Naga in Luzon; Cebu, Iloilo, Dumaguete and other provinces in the Visayas; and in Davao, General Santos, Iligan, Zamboanga, and other localities in Mindanao. The schedules of opening the selected branches including their special banking hours will be posted at the Metrobank branch premises to inform the public accordingly.
During the holidays when Metrobank branches are open, clients can do cash or check deposit transactions, and selected bills payments. Pre-arranged deposit pick up services will also be available. To provide more convenience for its millions of customers, Metrobank ATMs all over the country are available for easy access to cash, particularly useful for holiday shoppers plus complete bills payment facilities. Customers can also use the Metrophone banking and metrobankdirect internet banking for other bank transactions.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas gave banks an option to open during holidays to serve the public. Malacañang declared December 26, 29, and 31 as special non-working holidays, creating an eight-day break at the end of the year.
For more details on Metrobank’s holiday schedule, please visit your branch of account, or call 898-8000 for further assistance. You may also log-on to http://www.metrobank.com.ph.

Hi Don and A Happy New Year to You and to everybody reading this!
I sent some money from Europe (from a local branch of ING Bank) to a friend on Philippines, to his private account from BPI. The guys from the bank told him at first that they will not perceive any receiving commission for this kind of transfer, but in the end we were shocked to find that the sum arriving to him was almost 20% smaller (about PHP2000 less than what i sent to him). I must note that i also separately paid a transfer fee to my bank, so that is out of the equation for this big difference.
My friend tried to talk and ask the guys from BPI about this, but they just send him to talk to the Hotline from Manila BPI main office, and he couldn’t get through it yet (the line is always busy).
Do you happen to know what is the commission fee of BPI bank for receiving money on international transfers like this ?
Could it be that there is a third party (an intermediary bank) between my bank (ING branch) and BPI that would take such a big commission from the transfered sum ?
Thank you very much, any help is much appreciated !
And please excuse me if this was not the right place for placing this question.

If you are vacationing in the Philippines and makes a deposit of dollars in cash (cash dollar deposit), it will take 8 banking days to clear. Even if you deposited said dollar in another branch in same city.
This is what happened to me this month.
I asked a Pinoy friend who has a BDO dollar account and internet banking is activated, to deposit or transfer money to my BDO dollar account. My friend is from Manila and i am from Mindanao.
My friend said he needs to ‘enroll’ my account to his internet banking account, and this is to be done in the Philippines.
So when he went home for vacation this mid-December, he submitted my bank account to his branch. But until now, his branch has not approved the request.
Now comes the usual monthly remittance. Becoz my account is not yet approved to received internet transfer from my friend’s account, my friend deposited cash dollars from his account (Manila) to my account in Mindanao.
To my anguish and extreme annoyance, the dollar was not released becoz my branch said that it has to wait 8 f***** working days clearance before it can be withdrawn.
So OK, i did not know about it.
I called my bank to inquire about internet banking . They assured me that transfer thru internet banking can be withdrawn immediately once received in the branch.
But for the friggin’ cash dlalr deposit. No dice.
So there, 1,000 USD in BDO’s purgatorio…
Lesson learned: Never make dollar deposit to your dollar account if you are vacationing in the Philippines and you intend to have it withdrawn by the recipient immediately.
Convert it to pesos and deposit in pesos — to a peso account, of course.
I just don’t know if this policy is the same for all Philippine banks.
So for OFWs, always have dollar and peso accounts, either in same bank or different banks.
I asked my wife to check Metrobank for possible transfer….

The SWIFT code is an international bank identifier code required for depositing money from a foreign bank to a Philippine universal bank.
It has nothing to do with the type of account you have with your bank.
In other words, the SWIFT code is for the bank, not for the account.

Bank code, we do not use. The sender will need it from where he sends the money. But for Philippine bank recipient, SWIFT code should be sufficient.
In other wods, bank code is the sender’s problem. Just give th Swift code.

1. Inquire from your BDO branch if there’s any pending tranfer to your account.
2. Email the sender to provide you with bank transfer details like date of transfer, details of your account+plus SWIFT code, and transaction or reference number.
You can give this info to BDO for them to trace the transaction thru the SWIFT network.
Assuming the money has not materialized until this moment in ur bank account yet…

All answered question are all nice and really helpful sa ating mga kababayan na di nakakaintindi ng SWIFT/BIC and napakahusay ng customer relations mo. More power Don and keep up the good work!

SWIFT is not a routing number.
Routing number is needed for inter-american or inter-europe baking transaction.
Sending money to a Philippine bank via overseas bank requires only the Philippine bank’s SWIFT code.

Hi Sir,
Nasa Tripoli Libya po ang brother ko at company nila ang nagpadala ng remittance d2 sa Pilipinas for her wife acount at Metro Bank, San Joaquin, Pasig City. Noong April 30 pa po pinadala and until now ala pa din.
According to my brother pinadala daw sa HSBC Libya then transfer to Bank USA sa Brazil then transfer sa New York General remittance.
Is they any way na matrace namin if what is going on sa remittance ng brother ko and if nasaan na ba ito or ano na ang status ng remittance nya at kelan matatanggap ng hipag ko. Magpapasukan na po kc at enrolment na. Please help us if what pwede naming gawin. binigay na rin namin sa metrobank san joaquin at main office yong mga transaction nos. but still wala silang masabi smin kundi maghintay and ang most daw e 15 days it is more than 15 days already.

Please take a close look at the Swift code at the top.
Do you notice that all of them says “PHMM” after the bank code?
The Swift is like this:
MBTC – Bankcode
PH – Philippines
MM – Metro Manila
You can also verify from MBTC website…

Hello RVA:
2. mag inquire ka sa bank nga host country mo kung ano ang kanilang policy sa internet banking. normally kasi, dapat i enrol mo sa host country bank ang pinas bank account mo, para pwede ka maglogin sa internet to access your foreign bank account and transfer by internet banking to your pinas bank account. if u have issue on security, pls inquire again from ur foreign bank.
3. If you have any questions on internet banking, inquire fro your foreign bank.
4. If you are not sure you want to do internet banking, bring all your dollars to pinas and invest.
😀
goodluck.

TO RVA:
1. Mag inquire ka sa PNB dyan, maybe they can help you about the large amount of cash you want to deposit and reflected in RP for purposes of financial statement.
3. On PNB, hindi naman sagabal ang AML law on 200k+ deposit. I think the bank will ask u for your contract showing your salary, length of service, to justify the huge amount you want to deposit. Im sure PNB will be more than happy to accept.
4. Otherwise, open another bank account, say HSBC or Standard Chartered in Dubai, open a debit card or credit card (i heard western countries prefer that an immigrant has a fully-loaded credit account).
Good luck po, manong.

Don,
You have been generous about this topic. I am sure you have helped a lot of people. I found most answers to my questions from reading all the posts. But today when I went to Chase Bank (JPMorgan)and gave them the swift code, they only have one location attached to the swift code which is Manila. When I review the paperwork, I told the banker that I just want to make sure that the money is going to Metrobank Puerto Princesa, Palawan branch and not Manila. I wonder if this is really an issue. The only field that the banker can put the location of Puerto Princesa is on the recipient’s address. Is this really an issue? Would my money be forwarded to the right location?
thanks

Your buyer is talking about AMLA. transfering such huge amount in one instance is not possible. not even wire transfer like western union.
if you have account in HSBC Philippines, and your buyer is also an account holder of HSBC HK, then maybe you can inquire how they can help with AMLA exception.
or you can arrange for monthly transfer of amount within AMLA limit..
hope this helps..

Hi, someone will be sending money to me through wire transfer (bank-to-bank) from Australia. The bank in Australia asks for BPI’s Swift BIC, which i already got (BOPIPHMM), however they are also looking for a BSB number/code, which tells what particular branch the money will be transferred to. I’d like to ask help where i could get this number/code?

you only need to indicate the branch location. Philippine banks do not use BSB.

Hi Marissa,
nagpadala ka ng pera to your mother to deposit to Metrobank pero pinadaan sa exchange center,
2. mag bank-to-bank deposit ka direct to your metrobank account.

Account code and account number should be the same.
No, card number is not account number.

most banks in the philippines like Metrobank, BPI, RCBC and Citibank have international ATM. you will know it’s international ATM if it has Cirrus or Maestro or Visa logo in the ATM.
Charges vary from bank to bank. You can ask your relatives to make a canvass in RP banks.
To be sure, inquire from banks closest to your hometown..
Good luck.

To Madz:

Payment method for your account is “wire transfer”
The transfer has been made on April 1st, however please not that there have been holidays in between, which can result in a delay.
Also, an international wire transfer can take upto 60 (!) days to arrive if the IBAN code has not been provided.
yan ung sabi nila anong dapat kong isagot jan? salamat

should take 3 days to clear. But if the ATM account is peso, may take awhile to clear. Check your nearest Metrobank for details.

if it’s a peso account, yes it will be converted to peso. may take 5-7 days clearing, ask for details of deposit (like date of deposit, amount, transfer code, depositary bank, etc..) and submit to your bank for verification,

So if i direct deposited that money into that routing number, will it reflect on my bank account in the philippines? Thanks for the help.

you have to ask metrobank US.
If you are depositing money from Metrobank US to Metrobank RP, from dollar account to peso account, it will take the normal 3 working days. but if both dollar account, should be credited next day, assuming it is not more than the amount lagged by AMLC.

yes, you may use the peso account too. the problem is it will take more than a week after deposit to get your money. something to do with BSP regulations and anti-money laundering law.
the safest way is to open a dollar account in BDO or Metrobank.
in dollar-to-dollar trasnfers, it takes 3 working days only to get the money.
good luck.

1. merong anti-money laundering law ang US at di ko alam kung papano dadaan ang malaking pera from norawy to us them to philippines.
2. but assuming na ok ang transfer from norway to us, then ok then ang transfer by SWIFT code to PH.
3. Sa Pinas naman, ang ating anti-money laundering law limits the amount of a bank transfer to 200,000 pesos at any given time. beyond that, kailangan ng papeles.
para maka siguro, please visit the RCBC and inquire fromt them. good luck.

hindi na kailangan BRANCH CODE.
sa nagpapadala na yan kasi required within US Banks yan.
Dito sa Pinas, their is only one SWIFT CODE for all branches,
And one SWIFT code is enough kasi lahat ng incming deposit eh sa main office naman pumapasok. syempre, i-indicate mo ang Bank name, Branch address.
good luck.

3 working days, papasok na. except Holidays and weekends. bagyo man o wala.

ask your Holland bank how much they charge for the transfer.
In BDO side, it varies, but i think average maximum last time was around 10-15 usd, depending on fluctuation in exchange rate.

you can use BDO, alright,
but as for IBAN, Bank Code, and Last 4 digits (of what?), you may want to inquire BDO by email if they have it. kasi baka may US branch sila. If wala, then the first 4 shoud be sufficient because PH banks do not use IBAN.
if at all, your HR should be the one to fill-up the last 3 because it is required in mainland US bank transfers.

Receiver ABA Number-?
Receiver Bank Name-okay
Short Name-okay
Intermediary Bank Name-okay
International Swift Code-okay
International City and Country-okay

tama si BDO, SWIFT code lng kailangan ibigay if cash transfer.
ABA number is a routing number found on cheques. US bank transfer require ABA number to identify from which financial institution the cheque was drawn.
If they have bank account in the US bank they want to transfer money from, then they would only need to provide SWIFT code of BDO..
They should ask clarification from the US bank why a foreign wire from their depositor requires ABA.
anyway, here is list of American ABA codes:

and some info on ABA numbers:

2. conversion is that of the bank.

I am not sure I understand your issue.
If the transfer is real (tinuod) and you followed instruction at the top of this post, then you should receive the money transfer in 3 working days. If not, ask the sender to send you bank transfer details and you can show it at your bank to confirm what is wrong with the transaction or if it is legit.
If your account is atm and the money has been confirmed received by your bank, then you can withdraw anywhere in philippine archipelago.

Account number is your bank account number.
SWIFT code is international bank code for international bank-to-bank transfer. The SWIFT code of every bank is only one for all branches.

There is no HSBC branch here in Legazpi City, Albay.
Can I deposit the payment through Landbank, PNB, or other banks?

Hi Don Kishote,
I have fiancee from Netherlands, and tried to send me money through internet to my bank account which is RCBC my wallet VISA. At first he asked me about IBAN but i didn’t know what IBAN so he wasn’t able to send me. So I called RCBC and asked about how to send money from Europe to my account. So they gave me SWIFT code – I gave to my fiancee the SWIFT code and then he said money was sent(Fri, June 24) and it’s progressing until now. – meanwhile I was quite curious what SWIFT is and how does it work until i read your article.
My big question is, does it work through internet sending?- i have no idea about this tbh and and if so, When do you think it’ll arrived to my account?
Hope for your kind reply,
Erra

Check with your bank kung may pending transfer ba sa acct mo. Kung wala, you may ask the sender to send SWIFT transaction record from his side.
I hope you read at the beginning of the post what are the other info needed by swift.
Good luck.
